- ➤ Montgomery County deputy James Francis was indicted, terminated and arrested for a fatal 2024 crash that killed his partner while escorting a prisoner from Oklahoma on I-45 near Centerville—officials said he lost control of his vehicle, which rolled over and triggered a chain reaction. ABC 13
- ➤ Deputies captured 19-year-old Trea'land Ty'rell Castille in south Montgomery County at Woodlands Springs Apartments on March 8 after he shot into a crowd at a Mardi Gras celebration in Mamou on March 4, killing and injuring about a dozen. ABC 13

- ➤ Officials in Montgomery and San Jacinto Counties said a wildfire burned 2,000 acres near Sam Houston National Forest (forcing mandatory evacuations) as wind gusts and low humidity slowed efforts while crews used air tankers and dozers to protect homes and open shelters. ABC 13
