Good morning, Conroe.

Officers responded on Saturday to a construction site at 11483 Old Highway 105 E in Conroe after a tip that stolen TXDOT materials worth about $4,000 were being taken and arrested 25-year-old Lelis Cardona Torres—a deported Honduran national with an active ICE warrant—while a female suspect was not charged because she had three children.

Montgomery ISD Superintendent Mark Ruffin said in a March 20 meeting that the district expects a balanced budget for the 2025-26 school year—a plan based on a $5.5 million tax rate vote passed in November along with new measures to boost pay and transparency.

The district will improve staffing, safety, and long-term financial health while supporting student programs.

A new report shows that school districts outside the Beltway are growing fast as more families move from Houston for more space and less traffic.

New Caney ISD voters approved a $700 million bond two years ago to add rooms for up to 6,000 more students—experts say other districts have grown by 27% to 82% over the past five years.
