EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday, the Texas House approved House Bill 2 — an $8 billion measure designed to raise public school funding by increasing the basic allotment by $395, boosting teacher salaries, and limiting the use of educators without formal training — with a vote of 144 to 4; the bill will now move to the Senate for further review. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County courts have cleared cases at a rate similar to larger counties even as the population grows, though Judge Kristin Bays said case numbers are rising because the county has only 14 judges compared to up to 32 in peer counties. The 1936 courthouse (which faces repair and safety issues) may be replaced with a new $160 million building featuring 28 courtrooms as commissioners plan future steps. KSAM
