- ➤ The City of Conroe turned off water at the new Willis ISD middle school after an annexation agreement for its property fell through. Back-to-school events for over 800 students have been postponed (officials are working with county and city leaders) to fix the water permitting issue (a solution is expected before classes start on August 13). GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough said city staff in Conroe shut off water at Calfee Middle School and took fees from Willis ISD, putting public safety at risk. He urged the City Council to remove the administrators soon+ to ensure proper governance and protect residents. Conroe Today
- ➤ Over the weekend in Houston, Governor Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 1814, Senate Bill 1818, and House Bill 114 to improve veteran services—by creating a contact database, recognizing out-of-state licenses, and consolidating programs—and Senate Bill 2308 to provide matching funds for ibogaine research aimed at treating opioid addiction and mental health conditions.
