COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Conroe Noon Lions Club will host its annual fishing event for special needs children — Ken’s 'Kids on the Lake' — on Sept. 13 at Owen Park, where volunteers will help with fishing, games, prizes and provide a lunch; each child aged 5 to 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration ends Sept. 10, and fishing gear is supplied with the option to bring your own. Conroe Today
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students and staff at Ford Elementary were evacuated Thursday morning after a gas odor from a boiler was detected, and the fire department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department & EMS responded while maintenance began repairs with no injuries reported. Click2Houston.com
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new state law requires local governments to post public meeting notices at least three business days ahead, not counting weekends or holidays, and will take effect on September 1st—forcing changes to meeting dates. Montgomery County Commissioners Court and The Woodlands Township have already revised their schedules to meet the new rule. KSAM
- ➤ Conroe business owners and Rep. Will Metcalf have asked state and county officials to hold a public hearing on a gas compressor station project that many say risks local families and businesses—up to four compressor stations may be built near homes. A lawsuit for a temporary restraining order was filed on July 23, and Councilwoman Shana Arthur scheduled discussion for tonight’s council session—concerns persist over the plan to transport 3.5 billion cubic feet of gas daily.
